Recent examples of abject reboot failure include: TMNT, Nightmare on Elm Street, and of course, Spider- Man. It’s not even as if The Mummy’s own previous franchise tie- ins have been glowing.

Effectively a previous quasi- reboot of The Mummy series seven years after The Mummy Returns, it was an utterly disappointing movie that had nothing connected to the first two films, except Brendan Fraser, therefore cutting any heart- strings attached to the saga thus far. The focus was shifted to Rick and his angsty teenage son’s rebellion, making the film more of a tedious family drama rather than an adventure. At least The Scorpion King had a connection to the original premise by being another Egyptian myth, and starring a villain from The Mummy Returns.
